Smile Embossing Folders & Stamping...

Lots of us like using embossing folders with our stamping. No surprise there & with so many new folders coming out after CHA, I figure this is a timely topic.

In this case, I'm up for chatting about ways to combine them with parts of stamp images rather than embossing the entire image or using them just for BGs.

I'm playing with this idea & (so far) the only way I've found to do it is by piecing & layering. For instance... I have a sea turtle image. I stamped it twice & cut its top shell from one. I embossed that part & layered it to add texture to an, otherwise, flat image. Interesting...

I have a Judikins stamp (sailing 3309H) that I want to play with. I want to see how I can emboss the sails & the actual boat with different folders. I can see 2 ways at this point... Both will require doing 'fussy cutting', but the looks should be different.

So... Do you do anything with your folders in a similar way? What about using folders to do stylus-embossing & not use a machine to emboss parts?

Only once did I ever use an embossing folder for something other than a background. I used it to make the roof of this house I did for a house swap. The background brick wall is a folder also.

The only way I have ever done this was to use my die cutting machines, this will be a good weekend project, thanks Daniel.

Cool card, Kathy!

I'm thinking I might try some ideas without using any color--other than black for the stamping--& see how the pattern & texture work.

Loosy. I've never tried doing stylus-embossing with a folder. First for me, too.

Great Card. Nicely done. I have embossed pieces of card stock and then punched out items with it for embellishments. (such as hearts, flowers, etc.)
But I do have to admit I love them for background textures.

Very cleverly done. It is easy to get locked in using folders certain ways, but you have ventured out, coming up with a neat idea!

Julie the flowers and leaves are those little Jolee's packets that aren't stickers.
